A Cluster Expansion for Dipole Gases

چکیده
We give a new proof of the well-known upper bound on the correlation function of a gas of non-overlapping dipoles of fixed length and discrete orientation working directly in the charge representation, instead of the more usual sine-Gordon representation.

Observation of dipole-dipole interaction in a degenerate quantum gas.
We have investigated the expansion of a Bose-Einstein condensate of strongly magnetic chromium atoms. The long-range and anisotropic magnetic dipole-dipole interaction leads to an anisotropic deformation of the expanding chromium condensate which depends on the orientation of the atomic dipole moments. Our measurements are consistent with the theory of dipolar quantum gases and show that a chro...
متن کاملDipole-bound anions of carbonyl, nitrile, and sulfoxide containing molecules
Dipole-bound anions of 27 molecules containing either a carbonyl, nitrile, or sulfoxide group were studied using Rydberg electron transfer ~RET! reactions with rubidium atoms excited to ns S and nd D excited states. The electron affinity of each molecule was obtained from the Rydberg state, nmax * , that gave the largest negative ion yield using the empirical relationship electron affinity5 23/...
متن کاملCollision-induced luminescence from the impact of ions and cluster ions on solid rare gases
Light emission during the collision of ions and cluster ions on a metal surface covered by rare gas matrices of variable thickness is reported. The light intensity as a function of distance from the metal surface follows the classical image dipole theory. The spectral signature of the light corresponds to the fluorescence of the neutral cluster species deposited as well as to fragments. The nat...
متن کاملSenftleben-Beenakker Effects, Nonresonant Absorption and Collision Integrals for Gases Consisting of Symmetrie Top Molecules
The kinetic theories of the electric and magnetic Senftleben-Beenakker effects and of non resonant absorption in polar symmetric top gases are reviewed, using an expansion of the distribu tion function-density m atrix which includes the dipole moment operator juQ . General expressions are given for the elastic parts of all collision integrals coupling two purely angular momentum de pendent t...
متن کاملDifferential scattering and rethermalization in ultracold dipolar gases
Analytic expressions for the differential cross sections of ultracold atoms and molecules that scatter primarily due to dipolar interactions are derived within the first-order Born approximation and are shown to agree with the partial wave expansion. These cross sections are applied to the problem of cross-dimensional rethermalization. Strikingly, the rate of rethermalization can vary by as muc...
